History

The Peninsula Gun Club began on September 22, 1957, when 13 people met at Gibraltar High School to form a gun club. The first rifle range was on the ski hill that is now Little Sweden Resort, with steel for the backstop donated by Bay Shipbuilding. The club affiliated with the NRA, received M1 and .22 rifles through the Army's civilian marksmanship program, and moved the range twice before articles of incorporation were issued in 1960. Construction of a clubhouse on Juddville Road started in 1966. Through the 1970s the club added an indoor range, an outdoor rifle range, and trap fields, and launched a summer trap season, a junior division, and the Door County Open. Skeet houses, an archery tower, and a newer clubhouse followed. The club at 3702 Juddville Road in Fish Creek is still volunteer-run and is the only public shooting range north of Sturgeon Bay, with trap fields, rifle and pistol ranges, an indoor range, and a youth trap team.
